Poject Details
This project was an update to a residence designed by Jim Olson in 1970. The new design retains the sense of surprise and view orientation of the original house while enhancing the entry sequence, connections to nature and the craft of detailing. The heart of the project is the addition of a garden room, featuring a large, south-facing window designed to blur the distinction between the indoors and the outdoors. The illusion is enhanced by the addition of an ivy-filled planter box located at the bottom interior edge of the window. Stone pavers beginning at the street continue through the garden room, reinforcing the indoor/outdoor spatial connection.
