Poject Details
This 28,000 square foot facility, situated on a wooded knoll overlooking a small harbor on Puget Sound, will tell the story of the area’s history, especially the rich heritage of the local commercial fishing fleet. Two large-scale installations will bracket each end of the new facility. The Midway Schoolhouse, a one-room structure from the early 20th century, will be located near the museum’s front door. The Shenandoah, a 1920’s-era wooden fishing vessel, will be located in its own gallery at the opposite end of the structure. Spaces for the museum’s permanent collection, traveling exhibits and community gathering are also planned. The site has been secured and improved, restoration of the boat is underway and construction is planned to commence in 2004.
