Poject Details
Located in downtown Tacoma, this 50,000-square-foot museum is designed to feature Northwest artists and respond to the vistas of Mt. Rainier and the nearby waterfront. Separated from the street edge, the building is viewed as an object and a counterpoint to the context of the historical neighborhood. Clad in steel, the building’s exterior softly reflects the ever-changing Northwest light, dissolving the structure’s materiality. Inside, the ramped series of galleries wrap a central garden, reconnecting the visitor to the region’s inspirational landscape. Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects served as the executive architect to Antoine Predock, the design architect.
