Poject Details

Designed to accommodate both the printing and mailing facilities for the University of Washington, the 62,000-square-foot building is capable of 24-hour-a-day operations. HVAC, communications and the circulation core are grouped together in a linear form along the adjacent Burke-Gilman trail (a pedestrian and bike pathway), maximizing interior flexibility, opening up the remainder of the site for development and preserving views to Lake Union. Environmental control systems handle the toxins, while deeply inset windows and sunscreens provide passive solar protection and reduce the need for expensive cooling.
