Poject Details
In this weekend vacation home for a young family, themes of prospect and retreat play out in ways both grand (outdoor space separates the master bedroom from the rest of the house), and subtle (a window seat overlooks the driveway and front door).
Set on a steeply sloped site, in a meadow surrounded by woods, the house is oriented towards the water. Sliding glass doors connect the open plan living spaces to the outdoors. A cantilevered deck facing the water wraps around to a covered outdoor patio, which bridges the space between the master bedroom and the more public areas of the house. Above the master bedroom, guest quarters with a separate entrance enable visitors to exist independently of the main house.
Rough textures like exposed timbers, raw-finished metal brackets, and concrete floors give the house an informal cabin-like presence, perfect for a vacation home near the water.
